In 1803, seven hundred barracks were built on the territory of Coudekerque-Branche to house the third division of the fourth army corps. For two years (1803-1805), General Gudin will continually have his infantry execute maneuvers to make them the elite corps of "The Immortal Gudin Division".

General Louis Thévenet (1770-1846), Mayor of Coudekerque-Branche, also covered himself with glory on several battlefields of the 1st Empire such as Austerlitz, Auerstedt and Eylau. The commune of Coudekerque-Branche is committed to highlighting the 1st Empire through multi-era Camps and exhibitions within the Jean-Vilar cultural complex which can accommodate exhibitions, conferences, assemblies,

film screenings but also concerts , shows and galas. In addition, and for more than thirty years, the first weekend of September has taken place the “Fête de la Nature et de la Flandre”, with a regional dimension. It has become a tradition over the years. Finally, Coudekerque-Branche belongs to the Blootland natural region, characterized by a flat landscape and the presence of numerous controlled canals.
